Overview

Radio New Zealand published an article on March 23, 2022, headlined What you need to know: Key changes for scanning, vaccine passes and mandates. It outlined how the Government was easing restrictions that had been imposed to control the Omicron outbreak.

It included a table of key points including one that said, “all vaccines mandates will be removed, except for those working the in the health and disability sector, aged care facilities, Corrections staff and border and MIQ workers.”

Colin Decio said this was inaccurate – this was not a government decision but a court ruled order.

The Media Council believes the complaint appears to misinterpret what is said in the article and supplies no material to support the claim of error. This complaint consists of a one sentence assertion, and without substantiating evidence. The Media Council is not an investigative body and can only act on material supplied to it.  The complaint, on the material before it, appears to be groundless.

There were insufficient grounds to proceed.
